SGA MARES I
The Handama family thru SG BINT JASEEM

SLEEPING GYPSEY BINT JASEEM (dec)
(Torryburn Jaseem ex Torryburn Handama - by Ibn Antar*)

DAHMIEH OM AAMR

When this filly hit the ground Elizabeth Staunton asked me to name her BINT JASEEM as she was so much like her upstanding sire. And like her sire she has gone on to produce excellent stock, and prove an excellent saddle horse - a trait she consistently passes to all her offspring. Over the years she became the backbone of the stud by consistently producing high quality well conformed saddle horses that were strong, substantial individuals with great movement - excellent temperaments and which were intrinsically Arabian in type.

CH HALTER/SADDLE/RACEHORSE TORRYBURN JASEEM

She was ridden, off and on, for the first several years, in between producing a number of really oustanding youngsters. 'Jazz' was not a show mare - she was a very correct individual with a beautiful body and a tremendously long strong hindquarter. She was also a very powerful, forward mover. She was a very athletic saddle mare and was an excllent ride. Sometimes overlooked by visitors as being - too plain - she was generally the FIRST mare that endurance riders asked about - and was just the type of mare that can be the basis of an entire breeding program. She was very reminiscent of her sire's dam KASTANA (CRYSTAL FIRE* ex NEFERITITI).  In fact 'Jazz' has two crosses to Nefertiti - as both her sire and dam are out of Nefertiti daughters. Perhaps this is why she proved such a breeding gem for us.

At stud 'Jazz' produced an abundance of colts! Her first - ABU JAASK by BASKEER - is retained as our senior stallion. However she also has produced colts (since gelded) to the stallions Wisjtar (TALLAWALLA JAZZ) and Bremervale Excalibur (TALLAWALLA JALIBUR). Both of these geldings have been purchased by Terry Woods and are showing excellent results for him in endurance.
Waiting his chance in the wings are yet another two upstanding geldings - JAFAAH MONIET (by Prince Fa Moniet*) and JALUSTRE (by Kyremi Illustraa). Both very promising young geldings who are entering their endurance careers. Jalustre of course was shown to the title of East Coast Champion Amateur Senior Gelding in 2007 before his sale to Cedar Ridge Endurnace stables.

Her latest colt - BARBADOS-SGA by our own BAROMANOV has been retained. He is one of her very best foals and is an outstanding youngster and we will be looking at campaigning him at halter as a youngster. From his first two shows he has achieved a 4th place at the National Capital Show and the A Class CHAMPION ribbon for Champion Stallion/Colt at Canberra Royal in 2007. This year he is covering a number of premier mares at Torryburn stud for his maiden season and we look forward to the foalings there in spring.

   JABASKA SG - yearling

Daughters from 'Jazz' are less plentiful. Her first filly JABASKA SG (pictured above) by BASKEER was retained and has grown into a beautiful mare who is breeding on exceptionally well for us. A breeding to the Count Manilla son - COUNT CHATAIN resulted in a lovely golden chestnut filly with exceptional trot - but she unfortunately broke a leg in a paddock accident at six months and could not be saved. Bred to the home bred stallion WISJTAR, 'Jazz' produced an unexpected black filly. Named JALALAIKA this very tall and stylish yearling was sold to Queensland. There she is breeding on well, with some of her stock already exported. While on lease to Torryburn Stud, 'Jazz' produced a lovely filly to the aged stallion BREMERVALE EXCALIBUR. This filly - TORRYBURN MABUKA was exported to Malaysia.

Bred back to BAROMANOV based on the excellence of the colt BARBADOS-SGA Bint Jaseem again produced a very welcome daughter in the grey filly JA'BARODOVNA-SGA. A beautifully bodied filly with excellent topline and strength she has very good legs and feet under her and is a very stylish mover as well. She has inherited the BARBABAS eyes as well from her father and has an extremely pretty head. She will be shown in the coming seasons. We are thrilled to have such an exemplary young daughter from Bint Jaseem to take the stud into the future.

A full sibling to the promising young colt BARBADOS-SGA  this is a strong bodied filly who combines her dam's terrific substance and movement - with the extra Arab breed type and quality of her sire. Maturing to a  good 15 hands this is a well sized young mare, she is very correct in legs / feet / body and has a lovely head and beautifully shaped neck as well. She is an animated and stylish mover and will make an excellent representative of her dam in our breeding program. A grey like her sire I think she will mature into a very classic style mare as she continues to develop and mature.

The first foal of her dam - by an outstanding young sire of the time BASKEER.  Jabaska badly injured a hock as a tiny foal and while we managed to repair the damage - she carries a great deal of scarring which has caused her some ongoing problems. We look upon every day that we have Jabaska as another blessing. She is a classic style mare with a lovely broad deep head with a good eye and has a huge body and long strong hindquarter. She is a good sized amre being just over 15 hands and can move beautifullyl

As a broodmare Jabaska produced a lovely filly to the Bostocks blood stallion Torryburn Hariya el Jabal. Unfortunately this filly broke a pastern as a yearling and had to be destroyed.

       JABASKA as ayearling

We then bred Jabaska to her full brother ABU JAASK. She produced a very nice moving filly which we named ZADYMKA.  Zadymka was purchased by Judy Burton as an endurance prospect due to her conformation and action - and also her double cross to the Baskhan* sire line.  A full brother to Zadymka born the following year was bought by Terry Woods as an endurance prospect. 'SPARKY' is showing great promise at present.

Jabaska was then bred to the well performed show stallion, and Reserve World Champion DASSEFA, not long before his export and we were blessed with a lovely filly. Foaled 2 hours into the new century she was named JA'CENTAINE and she is becoming an exceptional young mare drawing a lot of comment from visitors.

After an ordeal foaling Jabaska has been a reluctant breeder. However we live in hope that she will produce us another lovely daughter for the future.

Our lovely younger Dassefa daughter is a real gem. A number of our visitors have commented on her excellent body and hindquarter, and her lovely action. She has inherited the lovely head type and refinement of her RESERVE WORLD CHAMPION sire - but she is very like her own dam in regard to conformation, substance and movement. Smaller, yet a big mover and a rich chestnut - she is an echo of  Bostocks.

Ja'Centaine is the premier young mare in the stud at this time and her future as a broodmare is anticipated! Her first breeding was to the aged Crabbet related stallion Cameo The Wizard (the last living son of Tafadin - who is also grandsire of Baskeer and so appears in many of our pedigrees) and she produced an upstanding and athletic grey gelding.

For her second breeding she was joined to Baromanov and Ja'Centaine produced an outstanding chesnut/grey filly to BAROMANOV. She is a little superstar!

First daughter of her lovely dam and a truly delightful one. She is a bold, showy filly who combines the qualities of both parents beautifully. A grey like her sire, with his big black eyes, she is maturing into an exciting show and stud prospect for the future. Her substance and elegance combine beautifully, and she is a very exciting mover as well. We are lookingf orward to getting this girl into the ring.
