In December of 2003 we finally got to take a long awaited holiday.......to Egypt!
Flying in over Cairo and seeing the pyramids at Gizah from the air is a moment I will long remember. The whole trip was a fabulous experience and a lot of fun leaving us some wonderful memories - memories of the country, the people, the desert - and of course the eternal Nile! There in Upper Egypt where the Nile is held tightly between the surrounding desert - it was truly beautiful and even now one could capture echoes of the past! While it was only in the last couple of days of our trip that we did something about seeing something of the HORSES of Egypt - we did manage to visit both the significant AL BADEIA stud of Nasr Marei, as well as the state stud EL ZAHRAA in Cairo. So it was at Al Badeia, in the shadow of the Great pyramids, that we met Nasr Marei and were introduced to some of the foremost members of the Arabian breed in the country. We saw some really lovely, top quality Arabians. One of these - the stallion Farid al Badeia is a horse I will always remember as a true classic example of the breed. Some of the Al Badeia mares were outstanding, and reflected excellent breeding foresight. Their strong bodies with good legs and size were impressive - but these mares also possessed lovely classic heads and real quality!
FARID ALBADEIA
Later through the courtesy of Nasr we were given a tour of El Zahraa - where once again I was very pleasantly surprised by the depth of quality and type in the stock. I came too El Zahraa expecting to find something quite different to the strong boned, athletic and good sized stock the stud is made up of. We saw some really lovely mares - and equally promising foals on them as well. Once again I was surprised here by the good bone and solid bodies of the stock. The stallions we saw were an interesting and quite varied lot with a great depth of type and strengths, and a broad base of genetic material - which is maintained for the future. It was a fantastic experience seeing so many of those Straight Egyptian bloodlines at the source and how they are being used within the stud. We flew home from Cairo with some very special memories of a country and a people and their horses - and a renewed interest in those bloodlines! For while our stud is based on the Hanstead / Crabbet bloodlines of the Bostocks stud - it also contains strong Egyptian elements through the imported sires AK JABAL IBN MONIET, IBN ANTAR & FALL FARM DESERT ASAHM. With daughters of these 3 sires still gracing our pastures and breeding our future generations it was not difficult to explore the prospect of adding more Egyptian blood to our herd.
AND so it was - with these memories of Egypt and the eternal Nile still firmly entrenched in my mind from that trip - and while re-newing the search for suitable Egyptian blood stallions to use over our existing mares - that I unexpectedly came across an extremely well bred Straight Egyptian mare for sale named as it happened - PRINCESS OF THE NILE .........it seemed like an omen!
PRINCESS OF THE NILE (Imperial Maakir* ex The Nile Rose* - by The Minstril) KUHAYLAH RODANIEH Tail Female: RODANIA DB
PRINCESS OF THE NILE
A tall grey (born black) mare - PRINCESS is typical of her Kuhaylan strain. She is well over 15 hands and is a leggy mare with a very deep girth and great lung capacity. She has a good set of legs under her and good sound feet. Her other strengths are a fine light neck with good set and length, an excellent wither and strong back and a good strong hindquarter. She is a quality, refined mare, and possessed of a good head and body. Her bloodlines are some of the most popular in the word today.

PRINCESS OF THE NILE descends from the successful sire line of NAZEER through his celebrated son MORAFIC - although through the European branch of that family which descends through Morafic's son MADKOUR. In fact Princess has 18 crosses too Nazeer in her pedigree - through some of his most influential sons such as MORAFIC, HADBAN ENZAHI, GALAL, GHAZAL, ALAA EL DIN, and of course the wonderful RAMSES FAYEK - as well as two influential daughters in the mares BINT MAISA EL SAGHIRA and MAMLOUKA. In fact Nazeer comprises over 28% of the blood of Princess of the Nile!
PRINCESS OF THE NILE
Her sire is the big grey import - IMPERIAL MAAKIR. Tall, athletic and powerful with a huge hindquarter and dynamic ground covering stride - he is possessed of great presence and substance and is not only producing A CLASS halter champions but his older stock are now beginning to exel in endurance competition. He is an outstanding individual and it was through my efforts to send a mare to be bred to this horse that I actually secured Princess. I think he is one of the more significant SE stallion imports into this country in many years.

The dam of PRINCESS OF THE NILE is the beautiful black imported mare THE NILE ROSE*. A top quality mare of beautiful type this mare has produced some excellent progeny including an outstanding son in Belbowrie Obsidian (full brother to Princess of the Nile) who has been exported to the Middle East where he is producing some excellent stock. The Nile Rose was sired by the USA based SE sire THE MINSTRIL. She is also the dam of a full sibling to Princess - the exported stallion BELBOWRIE OBSIDIAN. Obsidian - as well as being a successful show horse in the Middle East - is siring some top winning show stock there.

One of the most acclaimed Straight Egyptians of the modern era - THE MINSTRIL has been not only a great individual but also an outstanding sire as well. Internationally the daughters and granddaughters of The Minstril are highly sought after in the breed for their ability to consistently produce beauty and refinement.
Princess of the Nile is a maternal granddaughter of the prolific broodmare BELBOWRIE FAYEKA - Fayeka sired by the Nazeer son Ramses Fayek. A stallion perhaps noted more for his lovely conformation and correctness than great type FAYEK is an excellent individual to base a performance orientated breeding program on. His strength of body and excellent shoulder and hindquarter with great substance meant he produced some outstanding inividuals in his breeding career and in particular a wonderful line of broodmares.
RAMSES FAYEK
The tail female line of this mare is one we have long admired in the breed - albeit through her CRABBET connection! For Princess of the Nile is a direct tail female descendant of the wonderful mare RODANIA. This line is celebrated in Crabbet breeding as being a successful sire producing strain. The mare BINT RIYALA - great grand daughter of RODANIA forms her dam line - being one of the mares selected by the RAS from Crabbet Park and imported to Cairo to augment their initial breeding nucleus. The EAO bred mare ANHAR was selected and imported from Cairo too the USA and Australia where she was bred to a variety of SE sires to found a successful line - her progeny continue to produce quality SE stock in a variety of breeding lines.
Coming to us a proven broodmare we look forward to Princess of the Nile joining our broodmare band and producing the type of quality athletic stock that SGA is known for - but which also happen to be Straight Egyptian.

Princess foaled a delightful black/grey filly to AH RAMSES in early 2007. She is a very promising blend of both parents and confirms the decision to bring Ramses and his strengths into the program. A strong compact body with an excellent set of legs and very good movement make this little lady a prospect for the future. She is growing into a lovely bodied filly with substance and style. The fact that she combines the blood of 2 parents both carrying the strong influence of the famous IMPERIAL STUD reassures us that this cross will continue to prove quality stock with sound conformation.

NILE NEFERMOUN pending (Arundel House Ramses ex Princess of the Nile - by Imperial Maakir*) KUHAYLAH RODANIEH Tail Female: RODANIA DB
Our first daughter from Princess and Ramses and a lovely youngster she is. A good sized filly with good movement and a strong compact body, she is a stylish quality youngster and a very welcome addition to the stud. She should make a lovely representative of her lines and hopefully a useful saddle mare at some stage in the future.
Hopefully she will prove as athletic an individual as her IMPERIAL based breeding might indicate via her lovely grandsires Ibn Safinaz and Imperial Maakir.

Belbowrie MEMORY'S ROSE (Tarong Shahgar ex The Nile Rose* - by The Minstril) KUHAYLAH RODANIEH Tail Female: RODANIA DB
B MEMORY'S ROSE
The lovely imported black mare, The Nile Rose, made a very real impression upon me when I first saw her and was a definitive factor in deciding to purchase her tall, grey, Imperial Maakir* daughter. This impression of The Nile Rose is a feeling that is renewed every time I see her. She is an absolutely quality individual and as the dam of our mare Princess of the Nile she figures very prominently in our Egyptian breeding program. As a direct daughter of the mare BELBOWRIE FAYEKA who I had chosen as the mare line to base our straight Egyptian breeding program on she reflects a very immediate link to the strengths and qualities of the EAO breeding program which produced both the sire and dam of Fayeka.
Fayeka is an important mare to us, and to straight Egyptian lines in this country. Her line has consistently produced quality good bodied individuals possessing the necessary strength and soundness plus the quality and style of a good saddle Arabian. It is for this reason that this is the single straight Egyptian female line in our program.
With only three daughters produced to date from The Nile Rose, the opportunity to acquire a second daughter seemed unlikely. Until that is - her lovely young bay daughter - Memory’s Rose, who is sired by a favourite of mine in Tarong Shahgar, became available from Belbowrie Stud. Initially leased, she has recently been purchased for the stud. Our thanks to Elizabeth Massy-Greeene for her support.
TARONG SHAHGAR is one of the unsung members of a very successful family in this country. He represents the combination of the well known imported black stallion AK SIRHALIMA* (Ansata Ibn Halima ex Sirhabba) and the mare SHAREEFA* (Kaisoon ex Salha) - a mating which also produced the classic type well known mares Tarong Bint Shareefa and Tarong Sharaf. Shahgar even in his advanced years demonstrates great substance and excellent legs with good bone and sound feet. He is a good moving individual with much to offer the breed and made a lasting impression. He is above all else QUALITY and demonstrates this beautifully. He also offers a chance to access breeding that is almost out of reach these days being a grandson of two highly esteemed Nazeer sons in Kaisoon and Ansata Ibn Halima. These days his flamboyant bloodmarkings appear even more pronounced and extensive.
B MEMORY'S ROSE TARONG SHAHGAR
A bright bay, reminiscent of her grand dam Belbowrie Fayeka, Memory combines the ‘older Egyptian’ bloodlines and strengths of her sire Shahgar (Ansata and Babson lines) with the elegant ‘newer Egyptian’ line of the USA based super sire The Minstril – over that solid foundation of EAO breeding that produced Fayeka.

A lovely bodied filly, with a good top line and girth - Memory is a nice sized filly with good legs and feet and terrific action - showing a good free ground covering stride, tracking straight and true. Although only a youngster she is an elegant type and she shows promise of maturing into a truly lovely bodied mare with a light, fine neck with lovely throat and refined breedy head.
BELBOWRIE MEMORY'S ROSE
In 2007 Memory foaled a delightful brown/grey colt to Arundel House Ramses. He is a very correct colt with good movement and a lovely topline and hindquarter, and he has a lovely breedy head with an excellent length of rein and well shaped neck. We look forward to a repeat of this mating in hope for a filly just as promising for the future.

NILE MEMAFINAZ (pending) (AH Ramses ex Belbowrie Memory's Rose - by Tarong Shahgar) KUHAYLAH RODAN Tail Female: RODANIA DB
This very promsing colt will be retained by SGA to join our show team. If he continues to develop as he promises he will be retained as a stud option for the future breeding program.
He is a colt with an excellent neck showing good set, arch and plenty of length and good overall conformation including a good strong hindquarter. Look for him in the ring.
