A terrific moving horse of lovely conformation as well as great quality – El Nasra offers excellent breed type, with a good lay of shoulder and excellent length of stride which he is passing on to his progeny. He has a lovely head with large well placed eyes and tiny expressive little ears. At age 20 he is still fit and sound and full of vigour. He represents a valuable link to some older straight Egyptian bloodlines that are fast disappearing and which are increasingly valuable due to the evident qualities of movement, substance, saddle horse conformation and ability.

Sired by one of the very few imports that Australia has seen come from ANSATA STUD in the USA – Rianda’s El Nasra is the only straight Egyptian son of the athletic and masculine, imported bay stallion ANSATA EL MASRI.

        ANSATA EL MASRI*

Ansata El Masri was sired by Ibn Hafiza EAO/USA. Ibn Hafiza had been selected by the Marshall's and Tom McNair for importation into the US to provide the strongly Nazeer based program at Gleannloch with an outcross. Described by Judith Forbis in her book The Classic Arabian Horse as "possessing commendable size, long neck, overall smoothness and refinement." Utilised in that program he provided Nazeer bred mares with a combination of two of the most successful outcrosses  – that of SAMEH and HAMDAN. These were both stallions which feature IBN RABDAN as their sire line and, as a result, Ibn Hafiza possessed and passed on to his progeny a strong masculine style and presence that was also so evident in the intensely Ibn Rabdan bred Babson horses.

As a sire he produced some outstanding breeding stock as well as some excellent individuals including three National winners: EL DAYIM++, GAMAL AL ARAB+++, and Canadian National Champion Western Pleasure, U.S. Reserve National Champion Western Pleasure and Top Ten English Pleasure ALMILEEGY++. *IBN HAFIZA get have produced National winners in halter and performance, and his son ABENHETEP (a regional halter winner) sired multi-regional performance winner TAMMEN, a sire of National winners in halter and performance. So it is a sire line that has bred on very successfully.

 IBN HAFIZA

Sired by that wonderful producer Sameh out of an inbred own daughter of Hamdan in Hafiza – Ibn Hafiza was a prepotent sire of his own innate quality and style. Less extreme in head type perhaps – he was a strong bodied good legged horse – very athletic and very well put together.  Most of his offspring inherited his good body and big hindquarter toegther with his athletic ability, and a lot of them were that deep dark bay as well.

    SAMEH EAO           HAMDAN

Ansata el Masri’s dam was the Nazeer daughter Ansata Bint Misuna – one of the 5 original Nazeer daughters that founded ANSATA stud.  She represented the VENUS female line  interestingly she also possessed five crosses to the progenitor RABDAN (sire of Ibn Rabdan) and so her progeny were quite reflective of this strong masculine line. Compounding the concentration of Rabdan blood in Ibn Hafiza already to include eleven crosses to this significant progenitor. Similarly she was a taller type of mare - substantial and a little more masculine in appearance.

The FAMOUS 5 Nazeer daughters - ANSATA BINT MISUNA (CENTER)

Best known for her award winning son Ansata Abu Sudan – Misuna produced very few foals after being imported to the USA and Australia was fortunate to have seen one of her only two sons.

ANSATA ABU SUDAN

Ansata el Masri was bred principally to Crabbet line mares in this country - he was imported for his innate qualities and phenotype rather than to establish a straight Egyptian breeding program. He produced only nine entire sons, and of these only two have bred on. Fortunately the one son that has by far been the progenitor of his sire’s line is the straight Egyptian – El Nasra.

The dam of Ibn Hafiza - Hafiza also produced a son to the stallion Morafic named El Araby. Unfortunately he died young but was similarly noted in the Forbis book as  "One of the most beautiful stallions ever produced by the EAO ....., a superb bay stallion by Morafic x Hafiza. Tall, elegant, long-necked and very extreme of head, he had naturally brilliant park-horse action and carried himself as a mount of kings....understandable why Ibn Hafiza, his half-brother, should be so valuable in combining with the Morafic bloodline..." By breeding the Ibn Hafiza son Ansata el Masri to a daughter of the double Morafic grandson Sir Ibn Moniet - Rianda's el Nasra provides an echo of that lovely cross here in Australia.

Rianda’s el Nasra was out of the mare Rianda’s Raslina. She was a lovely tall, upstanding daughter of the intensely Moniet el Nefous bred import Sir Ibn Moniet. He was himself a double grandson of the legend Morafic, sired by the outstanding athletic sire Ibn Moniet El Nefous and out of a Morafic daughter of the black mare Cleopatraa imported from EAO.

   RIANDA'S RASLINA           SIR IBN MONIET

Sir Ibn Moniet inheritied something of the rounded curves and substance and type of his damline. He became a significant sire of broodmares in this country. Although he was mainly bred to Crabbet derivative mares in the Farleigh Stud which imported him from the USA, he did sire a number of straight Egyptian progeny, more particularly in his latter years while in the care of Rick Cummins and his straight Egyptian daughters have become a very valuable resource. Kalicia however was bred to him in the early years to produce Raslina and Raslina in turn has been a quality broodmare. Of her several daughters perhaps the best known would be Riandas Rafik (by El Shareef*) a very influential mare in Australian straight Egyptian breeding, and more recently the black Sabtah bred mares - Sabtah Black Beauty and Sabtah Black Sula.

Raslina was strongly Nazeer bred with seven crosses to him in the first 5 generations of her pedigree – making her 31.25% Nazeer blood. Her tail female line was through the Australian bred mare Kalicia – a tall grey linking the cross of Ansata Ibn Sudan and Omayma (imp/exp) that lovely daughter of SAMEH - through their imported son El Kaba together with that of the mare Talicia imp USA, a daughter of TALAL from the EAO bred mare HODA. Hoda was a granddaughhter of the mare SHAMS - herself a daughter of BINT SAMIHA dam of Nazeer. As a result el Nasra is bred pure in the strain of Hadban Enzahi through the mare Bint Samiha (dam of NAZEER) on both sides of his pedigree.

KALICIA as a youngster   OMAYMA by Sameh imp USA

The breeding of Raslina to Ansata el Masri here in Australia, replicated the outcrossing of the high percentage Nazeer bred Gleannloch mares, the purpose for which Glennloch Stud imported Ibn Hafiza to the USA. As a result Rianda’s el Nasra presents a pedigree that is well grounded in EAO breeding. Close to the source!

El Nasra as a young horse in the SE Queensland was campaigned at halter successfully. He also went TOP 5 at the 1990 EAST COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS. He has not been actively promoted at stud for most of his life however and seems to have slipped below the radar for most breeders.  Fortunately in the capable hands of Donna Freeburn he has been used him to produce some quality Arabian ponies as well as a small number of important straight Egyptian stock. Significantly – by purchasing the Belbowrie bred daughter of Imperial Maakir – Belbowrie Emaya to breed to him, Donna has bred two promising young straight Egyptian progeny by Nasra.

It was his lovely daughter BALGOWER RADIANCE, ex Belbowrie Emaya, that first attracted my attention to El Nasra. This is a  typey, good bodied and lovely moving filly – a substantial, yet elegant who is maturing into a lovely mare.

    B. RADIANCE

Radiance is also a full sibling to El Nasra’s youngest son - his sole straight Egyptian male heir to date. The colt Balgower Galactica is an upstanding dark bay youngster, who has inherited in full measure his sire’s good movement and long ground covering stride.

        BALGOWER GALACTICA

El Nasra has inherited both the deep bay colour and the good action of this line and he is passing on both to his progeny. Although not a youngster – El Nasra is in fine fettle and we are thrilled to have him here with us for a while and for the chance to use him over our high percentage Nazeer blood Belbowrie line mares. Hopefully he will sire some quality youngsters for us. An extra bonus is the fact that he has sired a number of black progeny over the years and hopefully we may see some more produced from our daughters of the imported black mare The Nile Rose.

RIANDA'S EL NASRA

Riandas el Nasra is also a pure in the strain first generation Hadban enzahi. Both the tail femlae line of his sire and dam trace via the Bint Samiha (dam of NAZEER) daughter SHAMS back through Samiha and Hadba the sole recorded progeny of the Hadban enzahi mare VENUS bred by the Shammar tribe and who in 1895 Hassan Abu Amin brought out of the Arabian Desert to Egypt. Bred by the Yunus Clan of the Zauba-Shammar Tribe, she was a chestnut mare and was incorporated into the breeding program of Khedive Abbas Pasha Hilmi II. Through her daughter HADBA her line - the line of the HADBAN ENZAHI lives today. For SGA it will be an exciting exercise incorporating his HADBAN type with both our KUHAYLAN strain straight Egyptian mares as well as our DAHMAN strain domestic herd.
