"Have not our horses come to us from our Ancestors, And shall we not in turn to our sons bequeath them" - Robia el Kheyl (50 BC).

December 2004: Christmas again and this year the foalings were almost all the week before Christmas here - and this year we were very happy with a very timely arrival in the form of a filly foal from the mare Desert Sprite. This is her first live foal in almost 10 years and a very welcome filly to boot!
Our foals this season are:
Ex HADESSA by TORRYBURN HARIYA EL JABAL -  a very stylish chestnut/grey colt with great body and excellent loins and quarters
Ex BINT JASEEM by BAROMANOV - a top quality chestnut colt with a beautiful head and a very long strong hindquarter - 'Jazz' has  returned to Baromanov
Ex DESERT SPRITE by ABU JAASK - a leggy and very good moving chestnut filly - definitely a 'keeper' this one.
With PRINCESS OF THE NILE still to foal!

March 2005: Well summer is drawing to an end and with the cooler weather we have given JAFAAH MONIET a run in his frist training ride at the Border Challenge ride. He handled it beautifully even with very little preparation - and passed vetting with flying colours. We are looking forward to getting him along to another ride soon.

PRINCESS OF THE NILE has foaled a lovely black/grey Straight Egyptian colt sired by TARONG SHAHGAR. He is a very nicely put together colt with lovely straight legs - and a good length of stride and a long hindquarter. We will watch him develop with great interest.

MARCH 22 - The end of an era here at SGA as my foundation mare TORRYBURN HANDAMA was quietly laid to rest.
To the end she represented the epitome of style and quality of the high caste Arabian mare.  She will be sorely missed as she was ever the yardstick by which each succeeding generation were measured. She leaves us the richer for having owned her almost all of her nearly 26 years.
Within the stud we have still 2 daughters / 2 grand daughters and 3 great grand daughters so her female line will continue strongly. As well we have 5 grandsons - 1 of which ABU JAASK is our senior sire and the weanling colt BARBADOS-SGA by Baromanov and also ex SG Bint Jaseem for the future.

Her progeny continue to breed and perform well for us (Jafaah Moniet mentioned above is her grandson) - another 2 grandsons are performing very very well in endurance for Terry Woods winning rides -  while her own daughter HAJAALA was exported after winning several rides here in Australia.

As the mares head in across the pasture to water this evening Handama's past - present and future is reflected in them.

***************************************************************

Also in March this year - the exported Australian bred stallion DASSEFA - previously Reserve World Champion - placed Reserve Senior Champion Stallion at the National Show in Saudi Arabia 2005 ECAHO Show. His two lovely daughters Ja'Centaine (a Handama great granddaughter) and of course Hadessa from Handama herself - represent his quality and beauty here at SGA.

 DASSEFA

JULY 2005: SGA ARABIANS HAS A NEW HOME. We have relocated south to the national capital region and purchased a lovely 60 acre farmlet at Murrumbateman between Canberra and Yass. While we will be building a home for ourselves - the horses moved straight into a lovely block of 10 very comfortable stables and well fenced yards and pastures. The work on upgrading pastures and tree planting has begun. The move puts us within reach of several shows and events as well as quite a number of endurance rides so our stock should be seen out and abut a bit more before too long.

We hope to get both the colt BARBADOS-SGA (BAROMANOV ex SG BINT JASEEM) and the mare JA'CENTAINE (DASSEFA ex JABASKA SG) into the showring before too long.

SEPTEMBER 2005: After several weeks of preparation SGA hosted Chris Haigh for the weekend to conduct a photoshoot to get a few new photos of some of the horses for the new publication THE ARABIAN HORSE IN AUSTRALIA VOL VI. An enjoyable time had by all and our thanks to Chris for all her efforts. and to Richard Sharman for his work with the horses.  Some of these lovely new pics are now incorporated into this site.

BARBADOS-SGA

OCTOBER 2005: Sad news from OS over the longweekend that the lovely DASSEFA died at the weekend. A loss to the breed at only 15 years of age.
Torryburn Halama is close to foaling this season to Abu Jaask as is the lovely Bostocks Fantiselle. The remaining 2 foals for this season will both be late foals sired by Baromanov ex the mare Bint Jaseem and T. Desert Sprite.

CONGRATULATIONS to Sarah Adams in South Australia on the purchase of the lovely moving mare ZADYMKA. "Zaddy" is being bred to Baromanov before her departure.

NOVEMBER 2005: A very sad time here at SGA this stud season with the death of two of our older mares.

The lovely Torryburn Desert Sprite (our KASTANA granddaughter) was put down recently suffering with a twisted gut while heavily in foal 9 months to term. She is survived in the stud by her lovely yearling daughter SALINAS-SGA sired by Abu Jaask. And just 7 days later and almost 1000 km's away - 12 hours after foaling a very very welcome filly by Abu Jaask - Bostocks Fantiselle (our FANTASY granddaughter) had to be put down suffering from a twisted gut as well. Her filly almost succumbed a couple of times to a virulent case of scours - but is hopefully on the up and up now and we hope she make a lovely continuation of that line for the future in our stud.

BAROMANOV has settled in at Chris Haigh's ALHAMBRA STUD where he will spend several months while covering a number of Chris's mares and hopefully siring a new generation of fillies there before returning home.

DECEMBER 2005: A bright Christmas here this season with TORRYBURN HALAMA foaling a very welcome (a several weeks overdue) filly by Abu Jaask. A big strong chestnut with a narow blaze and 3 socks she is a  lovely promising filly and will be retained in the stud.

HAMAASA-SGA

JANUARY 2006:  The tall bold grey filly HALAWA-SGA sired by Cameo the Wizard ex TORRYBURN HALAMA has been SOLD TO REPEAT BUYER  Sarah Adams of South Australia.  Halawa is big solid tallfilly who will mature over 15.1 and is a lovely moving filly very like her dam who was an excellent saddle mare in her day. She will have a career in endurance and we wish Sarah all the best with her. The arrival of Halama's newest filly sired by Jaask means we still have a lovely daughter to retain for the future here at SGA - and we will now re-breed Halama to Abu Jaask this season and hope for another lovely daughter.

MARCH 2006: SGA in collaboration with ROKEZ ARABIANS has leased their lovely Straight Egyptian sire ARUNDEL HOUSE RAMSES. Ramses who is an 8 year old grey was bred by AI using frozen semen imported from the USA based IMPERIAL STUD from their stallion IBN SAFINAZ (bred at the EAO). The dam of Ramses is the lovely imported mare Sars Image sired by Sar Ibn Moniet.  Ramses will be used at SGA over out Straight Egyptian females as well as some of our Bostocks line mares. He leaves some lovely youngsters at ROKEZ which all possess his strength of body, good conformation and excellent temperament.

APRIL 2006: Abu Jaask had a day out at Yass Ag Show this month. We will be trying to get some stock along to the local Ag shows in the area to promote the classes and make sure they don't disappear as they have in some other areas. Although the only entire purebred male present he was asked to trot out twice by the judge before being awarded Champion Stallion/Colt.

He then also went in against all derivatives for SUPREME PURE or PARTBRED ARAB - which he won in the company of some very nice Anglo/part and Arab pony stock. But what made the day most rewarding was the judges comment that Jaask had just 'floated' across the ring and that his action was beautiful to watch. And coming from a non-Arab horseman this was doubly rewarding.

JUNE 2006; At long last the orphaned filly foal from Bostocks Fantiselle came home after spending the first 6 months of her life being handraised by Elizabeth and Catherine Staunton of Torryburn Arabians. Our very sincere thanks to them for the great care lavished upon this girl! FANTAISSONCE-SGA is not a 'little' girl - she is a big bold upstanding filly - a beautiful combination of her sire and dam and we are thrilled to have her here. At her first photo shoot at 7 months Leisel Suhr was able to grab a couple of lovely shots of her for us to show her off with.

FANTAISSONCE-SGA at 7 months of age.

JULY 2006 - We have been fortunate to acquire the lovely SE filly B MEMORY'S ROSE on lease from Belbowrie Stud. MEM is a half sister to our lovely mare Princess of the Nile - both Being daughters of the quality imported MINSTRIL daughter THE NILE ROSE*. Memory will be bred to SE stallion AH Ramses this season.

OCTOBER 2006 - Fortunate to have Richard Sharman call in and assist with finally getting some pictures of the mare Princess of the Nile at long last.
See her page.

JA'CENTAINE has foaled a lovely chestnut/grey filly by BAROMANOV. This is Baro's third foal and she is a gem - we are thrilled with her and look forward to seeing her grow and fill out. She is as pretty as a picture and shall hope to take some photos some time soon!

     BAROMANOV filly

HADESSA (Dassefa x Torryburn Handama) has been sold to Annette Vickery of Espirit Arabians. Annette wanted this lovely mare too breed to her imported stallion Maraj el Dakar. We wish Annette the best of luck with Hadessa and her future youngsters by Maraj.

NOVEMBER 2006: The NATIONAL CAPITAL SHOW in Canberra this month and both JALUSTRE (Kyremi Illustraa x SG BINT JASEEM) our big 15.3HH purebred gelding and his half brother the 2 year old colt BARBADOS-SGA ventured out. To their credit even handicapped as they were by having me show them in hand both boys showed well for thier first shows and came away with a placing. JALUSTRE placed THIRD in a very strong senior gelding class - where first went to the current National Champion gelding - Bullion. The next show for JALUSTRE will be the EAST COAST.

Barbados-SGA took out a fourth placing in his class against some stiff competition as well. Barbados will next hit the ring at the Canberra Royal.

DECEMBER 2006: Baromanov is due home this month from his stud stint at ALHAMBRA stud where he has been busy siring some prospective galloways from some of the lovely broodmares there. We look forward to his return home so he can cover a couple of our mares including JA'CENTAINE for hopefully another cracker filly like the one foaled this season.

BaromanoV has returned home at last and has been busy covering a couple of our mares. Ja'Centaine has been tested in foal for  full sibling to the lovely filly foal she currently has at foot this year.

FEBRUARY 2007 : EAST COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!
This year JALUSTRE was shown in the Amateur Senior Gelding class for his second show and took out the CHAMPION AMATEUR SENIOR GELDING. Not bad for his second show and second time off the farm! This win qualifies Jalustre for the OZZY's in Melbourne next year.
Thanks to Tracey Bavington for these terrific photos of Jalustre.

    JALUSTRE

MARCH 2007 : CANBERRA ROYAL SHOW 2007
For his second outing BARBADOS-SGA scored the A Class CHAMPION sash for Champion Stallion/Colt at the 2007 Canberra Royal Show. An automatic qualification for the next round of Australian Championships - so hopefully we will be taking him along there next year!

APRIL 2007 : PRINCESS OF THE NILE has foaled a lovely filly foal - the FIRST Straight Egyptian offspring of A.H. RAMSES. And we are delighted with this promising black/grey filly who has a lovely long set of straight legs under her and a beautiful strong body with a good short back and long level hindquarter. She is a very promising young lady and we look forward to watching how she develops.

JULY 2007 : The very promising tall balck/grey straight Egyptian colt NILE NEFERSETI has been sold to hopefully pursue an endurance career in the hands of Unais Ameen of Melbourne.

NOVEMBER 2007: A bold and correct colt sired by AH Ramses born to B Memory's Rose - a brown / grey he is a good mover and a lovely bodied colt and will be an excellent representative of his sireline.

B Memory's Rose and colt by AH RAMSES

DECEMBER 2007 : Our thanks to AHN Editor and photographer Sharon Meyers who did a photoshoot for us. Some of the lovely candid shots taken on her stay here will be found throughout the website. Many thanks Sharon.

MARCH 2008 : Another dry month and the season is still grim here. So some of our youngsters previously slated to be retained for the broodmare band and the show team are being put on the market instead. Please check our STOCK LISTING page for details. Hopefully the 'wet' is not too far away for our region.

Chris Haigh visited recently and took some lovely photos while here of the mare BASKABELLE. See Baskabelle on the MARES II page. Here is another of Chris' lovely photos of this beautiful mare:

BASKABELLE

APRIL 2008 :  The lovely straight Egyptian sire AH RAMSES has returned home to his owners. After a 2 year stay with us he leaves up with 2 promising youngsters and both our SE mares bred back to him. Unfortunately the lovely Baskabelle did not settle to him this season. He leaves us with a tall elegant daughter ex Princess of the Nile, and a very promising weanling son ex B Memory's Rose, who appears very reminiscent at this stage of his grandsire Ibn Safinaz. We will miss his presence here at the farm.

HOWEVER -

We are very excited that the lovely aged straight Egyptian stallion RIANDA'S EL NASRA, sired by Ansata el Masri, will be arriving at SGA over the winter months to stand with us for a couple of seasons. An exceptional individual and the sire of some quality pure and Arabian pony stock as well we look forward to utilising him over our Egyptian and Bostocks lines mares.

  RIANDA'S EL NASRA

JUNE 2008 :  We are very happy to announce that the lovely Rianda's el Nasra has arrived and settled in beautifully at SGA.  Even more exciting in the flesh - he is a  beautiful old style straight Egyptian horse - he has lovely bone and good legs and moves beautifully. He has tiny little ears and a good eye and a beautiful neck carraige. He is a  very showy individual - vitally interested in everything happening around the farm and already casting very interested looks across the mares paddocked near him. We are very excited about the prospect of using Nasra over both the SE mares and the Bostock line mares in the stud. Roll on SPRING! And thanks again to Donna Freeburn for the chance to have the boy here.
