STALLIONS AT STUD

SGA is a small stud, usually breeding only a few quality purebred foals per year.  Our senior sire is a home bred stallion - ABU JAASK - a sire of proven endurance stock he combines the significant BOSTOCKS blood with the sireline of BASK.  Alongside Jaask stands our lovely grey BAROMANOV who is of Russian breeding being sired by the imported BARABAS* from a mare with an Aswan sireline through Patron and El Kasaka. He will be used as an outcross for our Bostocks line mares with his first foal born this season an outstanding colt from SG Bint Jaseem. Our junior sire BARBADOS-SGA is a son of Baromanov and a half brother to Abu Jaask. He is an exciting progression in our breeding program and is being retained for the studs future development.

Born in 1992 ABU JAASK was only the second colt we retained as a stud since commencing a purebred breeding program. He was the result of a repeat mating - after an older full sibling (Jabaska SG) proved such a lovely youngster. We retain Jaask not only because of his own innate quality and delightful temperament - but for the tremendous saddle horse he has proved to be - and for the excellent bloodlines he offers.

Out of our premier producing mare SG BINT JASEEM - Abu Jaask was one of those foals who just looked 'right' from day one. He never went through an off phase. As a yearling Jaask was shown at The National Stud Show - after injuring a hindleg in the transport on the way to the show. Lots of icepacks and cold water later - he made it into the ring and was awarded Second place in a very strong class. We were very pleased with his result.
At the East Coast Championships, under Her Royal Highness Princess Alia of Jordan, he was selected for the finals and ultimately became TOP 5 East Coast Champion Yearling Colt for that year. That was the year two colts who later went National Champion were in the top two placings - we felt he was in good company.

        ABU JAASK - yearling 1993

The following year he was again shown at the National Stud Show - and once again he was Second in his class. Again a very strong class - and we were happy with his placing. He didn't make the East Coast that year - and was instead sent out to be broken to saddle. His ability and tractability under saddle are exceptional and he is an excellent ride - possessing a smooth and elastic stride and that real 'rocking horse' canter. Frank Staunton broke him to saddle for us and bred two of Torryburn's premier broodmares to him. Resulting in their junior stud sire - TORRYBURN TAHL.

As a 6 yr old Jaask came out once to the Hunter Valley A Class Show where he was awarded Res Champion Stallion.

We currently have a couple of very promising fillies in the stud sired by Jaask that we are retianing and which bode well for the future and the continuation of these lines. He also now has two well performed progeny exported for endurance competition in the UAE.

These days Jaask spends most of his time supervising the farm. Nothing moves on the property without him being aware of it. He is used for pleasure ridinng and the occasional endurance ride.  He is a different type to the majority of stock in the halter ring now - he is more an echo of the past. He is most typically an echo of the saddle horse strengths and qualities that was BOSTOCKS - and he is one of that league of Bostocks bloodline sires - and is as Pat Slater once described them - a HORSE OF FIRE.

Within the stud over the last few years we have made an effort to produce a few daughters from Jaask for the future and have been fortunate to have him sire some very promising fillies for us from three of our BOSTOCKS line mares:

SALINAS-SGA ex Torryburn Desert Sprite - a lovely chestnut to be retained.

FANTAISSANCE-SGA ex Bostocks Fantiselle - a lovely chestnut to be retianed.

HAMAASA-SGA ex Torryburn Halama - a lovely big chestnut to be retained.

BAROMANOV
(Barabas* ex Shimmering Gold)
DAHMAN OM AAMR

Bred by the Sharman's of Jangharm Arabians - we have purchased BAROMANOV to use as an outcross sire over our linebred BOSTOCKS mares. An exotic headed grey Baromanov is an elegant, good bodied colt with a lovely neck and a beautiful eye. He is truly a son of Barabas* in this regard - encompassing the strengths of his lovely sire. He possesses a good wither and a short strong back with excellent coupling. His depth of girth is very good and he has short cannons with good bone. A good moving colt we think he will enhance the action we strive to reproduce in our youngsters.

Sired by the imported pure Russian stallion BARABAS - and out of the RUSSIAN/DOMESTIC cross mare SHIMMERING GOLD - he brings us a strong combination of beauty and athletic ability which we believe will complement our mare lines and also work in well with our existing stallion. Already a full brother has been shown to Reserve Australian National Champion gelding before being exported to the Middle East where he is now excelling in endurance. A full sister - the lovely young mare - Baartruksa is one of the better performed young show mares on the Queensland circuit at present.

As a sire Barabas has produced some excellent stock and many of his progeny have found performance homes in the Middle East. He has also sired some vey well performed show stock to Australian Championship level. The performance ability of his progeny is being recognised by astute breeders and Barabas is currently at Valinor Park stud where he is siring endurance prospects.

The damline of BAROMANOV is Jangharm's finest. His dam is the lovely chestnut mare Shimmering Gold who is sired by ESCALATE - a son of the imported Russian bred stallion VICTORY. Imported from Willomar Stud in Canada for a number of seasons VICTORY combined the Russian breeding of his quality sire EK KASAKA  who was an Aswan grandson through the well performed PATRON. The dam of Victory - WM Mistique - combined outstanding Polish and Crabbet blood including the Bask son Tornado and the Raktha son Silver Drift.

Shimmering Gold is a daughter of the well known Hansan* daughter Haisumi - a lovely mare and herself a daughter of one of the stud's premier marelines - ROYAL MURRA. Royal Murra being a daughter of the imported stallion Royal Domino* and the mare Murra. Shimmering Gold has multiple crosses to the blood of Hanstead - having both RIKHAM and ROYAL DOMINO in her pedigree. For us it means Baromanov allows us to compound the blood of choice for outstanding action - while adding a significant outcross to our bloodlines through the Russian blood stallions Barabas and Victory.

*****The first exciting foals by Baromanov have arrrived and are proving what an oustanding cross for our Bostock line mares he is.  His first was the lovely chestnut colt BARBADOS-SGA - he has a very typey masculine head - short, broad and deep joweled with a fine muzzle and good eye - with a lovely neck set.  His hindquarter is outstanding and he is a very stylish good moving colt with good tail carriage. His type and quality bode well for the future and this cross over our broodmares.  Barbados has been followed by two lovely daughters so far from the mares Bint Jaseem and Ja'Centaine.

BARBADOS-SGA
(Baromanov ex SG Bint Jaseem)
DAHMAN OM AAMR

A bold and upstanding colt combining the athletic qualitues of both sides of his breeding and expressing the beautiful head and neck we were seeking in the next generation of our youngsters sired by Baromanov. BARBADOS-SGA is a very exciting young colt and we are thrilled to have him here for the future. His action expresses a long light free trot and his innate quality is already drawing attention. From a stylish and elegant youngster he is maturing into a very exciting young stallion and we are looking forward to using him within the stud over some of our young mares. He is a very classic 'old style' Arabian with a very short deep head with good jowl and broad forehead and fine muzzle. He has a lovely head set and a beatifully shaped neck with fine clean throat. A strong bodied individual with an excellent length of hindquarter his future under saddle is anticipated.

Already an A Class Champion and qualified for the Australian Championships his future looks bright.

BARBADOS made an excellent impression on Elizabeth and Catherine Staunton of Torryburn stud when they saw him again recently - so much so that they have taken him home to Torryburn stud where he will cover a number of their broodmares this season.  While there he will also be broken in and commence his saddle training. We will be looking forward to the foaling season next year at Torryburn very much to see his foals arrive, as well as to his return home to SGA, where he will be retained as an intrinsic component of our future breeding program.

Interestingly for us - Baromanov's strain - DAHMAN OM AAMR is the same as that of the majority of our mares and also of our homebred sires. Although our stock are bred incorporating a variety of strains and bloodlines - in essence we will be breeding within the strain over the next few generations. The results will be interesting to observe. BARBADOS-SGA is a second generation pure in strain Dahman Om Aamr colt and bodes well for the mix. He will also be used selectively over some of our young Dahman Om Aamr females in the future to compound this successful strain.
